The administration and government of the Village of Flat Rock is vested in a governing body composed of six council members and a mayor. Members are elected in nonpartisan elections every two years for staggered four year terms. The mayor presides at all meetings, is the official head of the Village and represents the Village for all ceremonial purposes. The Council has the power to make ordinances, rules, and regulations for the proper government of the town. The Council appoints all standing committees. The only two paid employees of the village are the Clerk and Deputy Clerk. All other positions are filled by volunteers. Council members and the Mayor do not collect a salary or fee for their service.
