Flat Rock Park receives funding (January 20, 2016)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Flat Rock, North Carolina, January 20, 2016 –“The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $ 20,000 grant by the Community Foundation of Henderson County,” Maurean Adams, the foundation’s director of development, said today.

According to Adams, the grant will be used to assist in the completion of the Pavilion building at The Park at Flat Rock. Ginger Brown, village council member and park liaison stated, “The completion of the Pavilion in The Park at Flat Rock will provide our community a place for social and meeting activities, family reunions, small concerts, or just a place to relax and visit. The open-sided post and beam building will be airy, light and offers a beautiful vista of the park and is in keeping with the surrounding natural ambience. We wanted to create a space that will invite people to gather and socialize in an outdoor setting. The Pavilion addition will do just that for Flat Rock and Henderson County.” The Pavilion is planned to be one of the most popular and most used amenities in the park.

The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2013 by the Village of Flat Rock, North Carolina to help raise the funds required to fulfill the vision of a signature municipal park for the community. That vision includes opportunities for recreation, health, and education for all generations while preserving the natural beauty that draws visitors from far and wide to Western North Carolina.

The Community Foundation of Henderson County supports charitable programs in the greater Henderson County area. It was founded in 1982 and administers over 500 funds with assets of over $80 million. “The generous gifts from donors in this Henderson County area enable the Community Foundation of Henderson County to invest in such worthwhile projects as The Park at Flat Rock. Our advisors and volunteers, in their review of this grant application, saw the many possible uses of the Pavilion addition as a positive impact in the community,” stated Lee Henderson-Hill, senior program officer for the Community Foundation.
