Village of Flat Rock, NC

Barbara Jeter

Barbara Jeter

Barbara Jeter moved to the area in 1973 with her family. After graduating from the University of Maryland, she worked in the field of volunteer recruitment. She married a Flat Rock resident and, other than a four-year job stint down East, they have resided in Flat Rock, raising their daughter, Brooke, in our lovely mountains.

In the early 1990s, Barbara campaigned in support of incorporation for the Village of Flat Rock, which was achieved in 1995. She then served on the original Flat Rock Planning Board, helping to write the village’s first zoning ordinance. She also served two terms on the Historic Flat Rock, Inc. Board of Directors and Executive Committee as well as two years as president of the Henderson County chapter of the American Cancer Society. Barbara is a former member of the Junior Welfare Club of Hendersonville, a service organization founded in our county by ladies who were told during the Great Depression that they didn’t have enough people in their village for a national service club, so they founded their own, which still thrives today.

Barbara and her husband John have been married for 36 years, and attend Immaculate Conception Church where she has served as president of the Women’s Guild.
